Born on 31 December 1851 London, England. He was a British explorer, officer, hunter and conservationist, famous for his exploits in South East Africa. He was preeminent within a select group of big game hunters that included Abel Chapman and Arthur Henry Neumann. He was the older brother of Ornithologist and writer Edmund Selous. Frederick died on 4th January 1917(age65) Behobeho, German East Africa ( now the Selous Game Reserve in Southern Tanzania).
